We deal with breastfeeding nipple pain identifying and directly addressing it's root causes.

If you've been advised to keep practicing your latch technique but still experience discomfort during breastfeeding, your baby's tight jaw muscles may be the culprit.

This can lead to biting, gumming, or clamping nipple sensations, toe-curling pain, nipple damage, and more. While lip or tongue ties are often associated with this condition, it's more likely that your baby's jaw tension is to blame.

Breastfeeding coordination requires around 30 pairs of muscles and nerves, which can be impacted by compressional forces during birth. Babies with quick, long, or assisted births may be more prone to jaw tension.

The two red jaw muscles are just two of the face and mouth muscles we work on to help baby's to latch well.

As a Lactation Consultant IBCLC, I utilize traditional strategies as well as advanced techniques to provide breastfeeding nipple pain relief. These may include oral and facial massage, direct and indirect muscle release, and activation of spontaneous jaw movements.

These methods are not typically used by most Lactation Consultant IBCLC's, but I've obtained certification through Intensive IBCLC Masterclass Workshops and Paediatric Oral Myofunctional Therapy courses.
